Vizwriting – Factual TV for the curious: documentaries, science, history and news

Vizwriting on an LG television, ready for long lists of news channels

Vizwriting on an LG Smart TV runs through a player from LG’s own store, with no box in between. The set runs webOS, which does not sideload, so the usual players are IPTV Smarters Pro and Smart IPTV, the second needing webOS 3.0 or newer. The Magic Remote that comes with many LG sets helps more than you might expect when a news group holds hundreds of channels: its scroll wheel and on-screen pointer cover a long list faster than arrow keys do. This guide uses both.

Parts list for this setup

  • Any LG Smart TV running webOS, version 3.0 or later if you want Smart IPTV
  • An LG account, if the store asks for one
  • Your Vizwriting details: the Xtream login for Smarters, and the M3U link if Smart IPTV is your choice
  • The Magic Remote if your set came with one; the standard remote does the same job more slowly

Set aside about 10 minutes. Nothing to type in yet? The Vizwriting 24-hour trial sends working details to WhatsApp. A paid term uses exactly the same format, so nothing here is redone after you buy.

The LG Smart TV setup, in seven steps

  1. Look up the software version

Open Settings, then All Settings, then General or Support, depending on the year of the set, and choose About This TV. Recent models name the webOS version there; on older ones the software version and model year are listed, and support can confirm the webOS level from the model code if you send it on WhatsApp. The number matters because Smart IPTV needs webOS 3.0 or newer, while IPTV Smarters Pro depends only on the store in your country.

Line up a login: terms from $15

  2. Find the players in LG’s store

From the Home menu, launch the LG Content Store (newer webOS names it Apps) and use the search at the top and look for IPTV Smarters and Smart IPTV. Listings vary by country, so if one is not offered, use the other. Any app whose name imitates TiviMate is something else: TiviMate has never been released for LG televisions.

  3. Choose between the two players

For a television that will carry both the news and the documentary shelves, IPTV Smarters Pro is the more complete choice: the Xtream login opens Live TV, Movies and Series, each with search. Smart IPTV handles live channels well and stays light on older sets, but it presents the M3U link as a list of groups without separate library sections, and it charges a one-time activation after its trial. Pick one now; the other can be added later with the same details.

  4. Sign IPTV Smarters Pro in

Pick the Login with Xtream Codes API button, then complete the three fields from WhatsApp: username, password, and the server URL with its http:// and port. The Magic Remote makes the keyboard easier, since you point at a key instead of stepping to it. Press Add User and let the first sync finish before opening Live TV, or the guide may appear half-filled until the next refresh.

  5. Or load the list into Smart IPTV

Note the MAC address on Smart IPTV’s start screen. On a phone or laptop, open the upload page on Smart IPTV’s own website, whose address the app displays, type the MAC, paste the Vizwriting M3U link and send. Restart the app on the television and the groups appear. Guide data usually comes with the list; if the app asks for a separate source, use the xmltv.php address from your chat.

  6. Use the pointer on long groups

In a long news or country group, each turn of the Magic Remote’s scroll wheel moves several rows, and pointing at a channel selects it directly, so a few minutes learning it on the biggest group pays back every evening. Then add the news channels you follow to favorites in the player, RTÉ News, CBC News or Bloomberg, whichever you check, so the bulletins sit in one short list. Whether the remote’s channel buttons step channels inside the player depends on the player; try them.

  7. Run the top-of-the-hour test

Wait for the top of an hour and open two news channels in turn as their bulletins begin. Each switch should take a second or two, and the guide should name what is on. Then open a factual channel and leave it playing for five minutes. If all three play cleanly, the television is ready; if a picture stutters only in the evening, the faults below cover it.

Once it plays: where the factual side lives

With the player signed in, the rest is finding things. Live channels arrive in groups, and the on-demand library keeps non-fiction on shelves of its own; the Vizwriting documentaries and news channels page explains how both are arranged. What airs next on most channels, the 9 p.m. bulletin included, is in the Vizwriting program guide. A bulletin that aired an hour ago can often be replayed through catch-up, on the channels that carry it.

LG Smart TV faults, by what the screen shows

The Magic Remote pointer does nothing inside the player

Some apps are built for arrow keys and ignore the pointer on parts of their screens. Use the wheel as a button, pressing it to select, and the directional keys around it. If the remote stops responding everywhere, re-pair it by pressing and holding the Home and Back keys at the same time for roughly five seconds (the method on most Magic Remotes), then aim it at the screen and click the wheel.

Smart IPTV opens to its MAC screen with no channels

Either the upload went to a different MAC or the app was not restarted afterwards. Compare the MAC on the upload page with the one on screen, send the link again, and close the app fully rather than pressing Back. A television that has been factory reset needs the upload repeated too, because the app’s storage was cleared.

Smart IPTV plays live channels but the documentary shelves are missing

Smart IPTV is a live-channel player. It reads the M3U link as groups and does not lay out the on-demand library in separate Movies and Series sections. For the non-fiction shelves of the 120,000+ title library, sign in to IPTV Smarters Pro with the Xtream details as well; the two apps sit side by side happily.

Pictures stutter on Wi-Fi in the evening only

A television’s Wi-Fi radio is often weaker than a phone’s held in the same spot, and evening traffic exposes it. Use the set’s Ethernet port if a cable can reach, or a powerline adapter if it cannot. On Wi-Fi, choose the router’s 5 GHz network if it has one, and move anything metal away from the router.

The guide shows every bulletin an hour early or late

Players draw the guide against the television’s own clock. Check the time settings under General and set the date and time to automatic, with the right time zone, then refresh the guide in the player. Some players also have a guide time-offset setting; leave it at zero unless the clock is already correct and the listings are still out.

A player update signed you out

Updates occasionally reset a player’s stored profile. Sign in again with the same details; nothing changes on the Vizwriting side. Keep the WhatsApp message holding your login pinned in the chat so the details are never more than a scroll away.

Nothing above matches? A photo of the screen sent on WhatsApp usually settles it faster than a description, and the Vizwriting not-working page covers faults that are not tied to one device.

Asked about Vizwriting on LG Smart TV

Does Vizwriting work on LG TVs?

Yes. LG’s store carries IPTV Smarters Pro in most countries, and Smart IPTV runs on sets with webOS 3.0 or newer. Either takes your Vizwriting details with no extra hardware. If your set is older or the store lists neither player, connecting a Fire TV Stick on Fire OS or a Google TV device to an unused HDMI input does the job.

Is TiviMate available on LG televisions?

No. TiviMate is made for Android and has never been released for webOS, and listings with similar names are other apps. To use TiviMate with an LG set, connect an Android TV or Google TV device, or a Fire TV Stick on Fire OS, and sign in there with the same Vizwriting details.

Can I install iPlayTV on an LG TV?

No. iPlayTV is an Apple-only player, made for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. On an LG television the usual players are IPTV Smarters Pro and Smart IPTV, and both accept a Vizwriting login, the first through Xtream details and the second through the M3U link.

Do I need the Magic Remote to use Vizwriting on LG?

No; the standard remote does everything with its arrow keys. The Magic Remote is simply quicker on long lists, because the scroll wheel and pointer skip through a group of hundreds of channels in a few movements. Many recent LG sets ship with it, and it can be bought separately for models that support it.

Can an LG TV show two channels at once?

Not through the players described here, which show one stream at a time. Some LG models have a Multi View mode that splits the screen between two sources, such as the television and a mirrored phone, so check your manual. For several channels on one screen, TiviMate Premium on an Android device offers multi-view, with one connection per tile.
